City Elections

2025 GENERAL ELECTION

The City of Gilmer hereby cancels the general election scheduled to be held on May 3, 2025 (as called by for Ordinance No. 25-013) in accordance with Section 2.053(a) of the Texas Election Code. The following candidates have been certified as unopposed and are hereby elected as follows:

The regular scheduled 2025 General Election will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 to elect Mayor At-Large, Councilmember District Two, Councilmember District Three, and Councilmember At-Large for two year terms.

Applications for a place on ballot for the General Election on May 3, 2025 will be available on January 15, 2025. The last day to file an application for a place on the ballot will be February 14, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

EARLY VOTING

Early Voting will be held April 22, 2025. More information on Early Voting polling places and times will be posted as determined.

ELECTION DAY

Election Day Voting will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Voting by sick or disabled voters at main early voting place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m, where electronic voting systems are used at precinct polling place.

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;

2. Must have resided within the city and the territory from which the office elected for at least twelve (12) months immediately preciding Election Day;

3. Meet all other eligibility requirements of the Texas Election Code TexasElection Code (Title 9, Chapter 141)

Candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain a candidate packet to file an application by February 15, 2025 by 5:00 p.m.

*These forms are available on the Secretary of State website (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/), but the full Candidate Packet (recommended) is obtained from the City Secretary at City Hall located at 110 Buffalo Street, Gilmer, TX 75644. 

**The filing period begins on the 108th day prior to the election date and ends on the 78th day at 5:00 p.m. prior to the election date.

2024 General Election

The regular scheduled 2024 General Election will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 to elect Councilmember District One, Councilmember District Four, and Councilmemeber At-Large for two year terms.

Applications for a place on ballot for the General Election  May 4, 2024 will be available on Wednesday, January 15, 2024  last day to file and application for place on ballot will be Friday, February 16, 2024.

The City Secretary Serves as the election official for the City of Gilmer Municipal Elections. The City of Gilmer partners with Upshur County to administer elections and tabulate ballots as conducted according with the Texas Election Code. Please contact the City Secretary’s Office for info regarding municipal elections like City Council or City initiated ballot items.
